Distance Learning Teaching Jobs
In today’s technological advancements, learning, as well as teaching, is no longer limited to the classrooms or on regular school days. The number of students taking online courses (also otherwise known as distance learning) increase day by day. Similarly, many schools and educational institutions are now expanding on the internet. As such, there is also an increase in the demand for distance learning teachers or instructors.
The term distance learning means that classes, courses and programs are offered remotely away from a structured school or campus setting. The students and the teacher communicate though email or various tools from the internet. In many cases, neither the student nor the teacher needs to be present in class; sessions and schedules are flexible and most often adapting to the pace of the students.
It is important to note that distance learning teaching jobs require the same amount of devotion as a regular teaching job, even with the change in the process or status quo. As distance learning educators, here are just some of the things your job will require from you:
- Act as a moderator and mentor who will encourage participation
- Guide your students through their lessons and processes
- Assist your students to organize their work and thoughts during presentations
- Motivate them to finish their classes on schedule
- set the paths to their goals so that they do not procrastinate
The job may also require you to develop course outlines designed for distance learning. And because classes are done in an online setting, an above average knowledge of how the internet works is a big advantage because many of your classes are just as effective as the way you present these using the internet.
